The red light errors are the pre-programmed errors that will arise whenever when the console meets a hindrance to its normal operation. This setup is made in order to help the users to know what actual problem the console’s hardware is facing and instructs user to take the necessary steps in order to solve the error. For example when your consoles A/V cable is not properly connected then you will find Two red lights in the power ring area along with a error message on the screen stating No connection. Thus in this way it helps the user to rectify the problems in the console.
POWER RING
The power ring is nothing but four LED lights that are placed in a ring fashion around the power button. They are placed in such a way that each light is placed in four quadrants. These lights are capable of glowing in red and green color and hence will clearly indicate the status of the console. Whenever an error occurs then the lights will change from the green color to red color. The number of lights glowing depends upon the type of error. As that the error which is explained in the example is called as the Two Red lights error. Similarly there are single, three and four red lights error. Out of these errors the “Three Red Light error” is the one which cause lot of problem to the whole console. As this error has even the possibility of damaging the motherboard and the entire hardware goes waste. But, other red light errors will not lead the console to such a level when compared with the three red light error. The Three Red light error is also known as the “Red Ring of Death” or RRoD.
TECHNICAL REASONS
The problem which makes the three red light error worst is that the device gets overheated as a result the consoles graphical processing unit stops functioning because of the excess heat developed inside the console. Also when the repaired consoles are tested it showed poor cooling as the heat sinks did not function well. It failed to cool the air surrounding the processors. All these pointed fingers towards the poor hardware development and defects in designing the system. These problems made Microsoft to extend its general warranty period for about three years to all the consoles in order to temporarily solve the issue.
WAYS TO SOLVE
In order to solve the Three Red Light error it is necessary to provide enough cooling so that the systems internal temperature in within the normal limit. For this we need to remove the X clamps that hold the heat sinks above the processors. By removing the X clamps we can able to provide cooling from the entry of air from the surrounding environment. Thus air can flow in through the ventilation and can easily remove the hot air developed inside. You can do this in different ways like giving the console to a service centre or else you can repair your console on your. The later is the best and the most economical method of solving the problem. For repairing on your own you don’t require any sophisticated tools to repair the console. You can do the repairing process with simple tools. The only requirement is that you have to get a good repairing guide from the internet. These guides are also available in video formats also for a clear understanding. The advantage is that once if you have finished repairing then you can start playing with your console on the same day without wasting your time.
